Malcolm DeanMalcolm Dean, the Guardian

Malcolm Dean is the former assistant editor of the Guardian and social affairs leader writer. A member of the editorial staff for 37 years, he was the founding editor of SocietyGuardian 26 years ago, which has specialised in covering public services, and still contributes a comment column to the section. Between 1996 and 2003 he was the editorial representative on the Scott Trust board, the owners of the Guardian and Observer newspapers.

Malcolm is now on a 2 year fellowship at Nuffield college, Oxford, writing a book on the media's influence on social policy.
